Recommended Northern Virginia Builders

Here are the websites for the Northern Virginia Builders I recommend.  Yes, there are some builders that ARE NOT HERE.  That is because, in my opinion, the quality or customer service is below what I would call acceptable.  If there is a builder you are interested in that you do not see here, please email me with the builder name and I will tell you what I know about them.  J. D. Power is a also a good measurement of quality with regard to home buyer satisfaction.

My highest recommendation is:

Winchester Homes.  Great single family homes and townhomes. They are without a doubt the BEST!!! Ranked #1 by J. D. Power.  3 way tie 2004.

Sorensen Homes.    A local, family-run builder that has been building and customizing exemplary homes for over 57 years.  I have sold homes with this builder. They are not the biggest but they have an amazing standard of quality. Some of the contractors have been working on the homes for over 20 years. They use quality materials and build to exacting standards. A true "10" in a world of mediocre builders! Townhomes to Estates! They have them all.

Van Metre Homes.  Very good quality. J. D. Power winner. Condos, townhomes, and "normal" single family haomes and "luxury" single family homes. One of the areas oldest and most respected builders. I have sold a few of these and they have all been very very good homes.

Engle Homes.  Very good quality. Single family, townhome and condos.  Ranked 21 by J. D. Power 2004.

Equity Homes.  Single family and townhomes.

Centex Homes. Single family, townhomes and condos.  Ranked #1 by J. D. Power.  3 way tie 2004.

Pulte Homes.  Single family, townhomes and condos. Ranked #1 by J. D. Power, 3 way tie 2004.

Stanley Martin Homes.  Single family and townhomes.  Ranked #8 by J. D. Power 2004.

NV Homes.  Single family and townhomes. Ranked #6 by J. D. Power 2004.

Ryan Homes.  Single family and townhomes.  Ranked #9 by J. D. Power 2004.

Ryland Homes.  Single family, townhomes and condos.  Ranked #15 by J. D. Power 2004.

Beazer Homes.  Single family, townhomes and condos.  Ranked 17 by J. D. Power 2004.


The New Homes Guide is the best, most comprehensive guide to all the builders.  There are some builders that I did not feature because I am not familiar with them, and can not give an accurate description of their quality and customer service.  However, great method is to find the community you are interested in, and drive through to ask the neighbors about the builder.  They will usually give you an idea of what the customer service record is for the builder.
